3 DAYS GORILLA SAFARI IN THE VIRUNGA NATIONAL PARK, DRC
The Tour Overview
This is one of those safaris that are sure to reward you with a spot on Mountain Gorilla adventure in the Virunga National Park of Congo Democratic Republic. Begin your safari from the Kigali International Airport in Rwanda then travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo where you will spend 2 nights in any of the lodges famous in Goma just around the northern area of Lake Kivu. Some of the inclusions include a gorilla permit that costs only US$400.
Day 1: Arrival and Pick-up from the Airport
On arrival at the Kigali International Airport, you will be received by your guide and or driver will take you around the city for a tour before driving to the northern side of Rwanda for the town of Goma in the afternoon. Have your lunch en route and you can opt for a brief city tour on arrival. Check into your hotel; enjoy your dinner and catch some sleep.
Accommodation: Mikeno Lodge or the Bukima Tented Camp.
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Virunga National Park
Early morning at around 6 am, have your breakfast before heading off to the park headquarters driving for an hour. Here you are given a gorilla family that is available for trekking and also briefed on what you are supposed to and not to do while in their presence. Trekking takes a minimum of an hour to 8 hours depending on the distance of your gorilla group and you only get to spend 1 hour watching them feed, play and also as you take photographs. Head back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight.
Day 3: Departure
After getting up to an early morning breakfast before setting off en route the border where you will complete the border crossing process before heading for the Kigali International Airport where you will catch your flight back home.
